Chobe, the Makgadikgadi pans or a Kgalagadi loop through Two Rivers? The Kampi Botswana cross-border sticker kit covers the markings Botswana expects on a South African rig towing a caravan or trailer, including the T-signs that catch a lot of travellers out, plus a guide on where every piece goes.
What is in the kit
- ZA country identifier oval for the rear of the rearmost vehicle.
- T-signs for the trailer: one white, one red.
- White front and red rear reflectors for the trailer.
- Printed fitment and placement guide.
Where each sticker goes
On the caravan or trailer
- ZA oval: rear, right-hand side, at least 150 mm clear of the number plate.
- T-sign (white): on the front, right-hand side of the trailer.
- T-sign (red): on the rear, right-hand side of the trailer.
- Reflectors: white facing forward, red facing rearward.
How to fit your stickers
- Clean and dry the panel with soapy water, then wipe with a little methylated spirits so the adhesive grips.
- Fit in mild shade, not full Kalahari sun: the vinyl sits flatter and the glue cures better between 15°C and 25°C.
- Peel slowly, lay one edge down first, then smooth from the centre outwards with a cloth or squeegee to push out air bubbles.
- Press the reflective tape and ovals down hard for 30 seconds and leave them 24 hours before a wash or a long highway run.
Do not forget to carry
- Reflective warning triangles: carry two, and four when towing. Add a pair below.
- Reflective safety vests: Botswana expects two on board when there are more than two people in the vehicle. Add a set below.
- At the border you pay the road transport permit, national road-safety levy (also charged on the trailer), third-party insurance and the cross-border charge, plus a temporary import permit. Keep the receipts in the cubbyhole.
Please read before you travel
Border requirements change without notice and enforcement differs from one post and one official to the next. This kit and guide are put together in good faith from current travel sources, but they are guidance, not legal advice. Confirm the rules for your route with the relevant roads authority or your border post before you leave, and carry your vehicle licence, registration papers and a police clearance where required.
