Wireless Magnetic Towing Camera with 5″ Monitor

I towed with this camera on a weekend away in October and it was honestly the best towing experience I’ve had. Safer, and a lot less stressful. The caravan stops being a wall behind you. You can see the car sitting in your blind spot, the bakkie lining up to overtake, and exactly how much space is left when you back into a tight stand. Reversing at the campsite goes from a two-person shouting match to one person and a screen.

If you tow a caravan, get one of these. I mean that.

No wiring on the caravan

The camera runs on a built-in 9600mAh battery and sits on a magnetic mount. Put it on any flat steel surface at the back of the rig: the bumper, the spare wheel carrier, a steel bike rack. When you unhitch it comes off and goes in the cubby hole. Nothing to drill, no cable down the drawbar, no trip to the auto electrician.

Check one thing before you buy. Most caravan walls are aluminium or fibreglass, and a magnet won’t hold on either. Look for steel at the back of your caravan or trailer first. A fridge magnet is a quick test.

The screen

The 5-inch monitor sticks to the windscreen with its suction cup and runs off 12-24V, so it works in a bakkie, an SUV or a truck. The picture is 800 x 480 and the screen is rated at 500 cd/m², which is bright enough to read in daylight. Camera and screen talk over a digital 2.4GHz link that is rated to 400m in the open. Behind a caravan you need a tiny fraction of that.

Room for a second camera

The screen takes two cameras. Add a second magnetic camera (part RCS902) on the side of the caravan, a boat or a horse box, and the screen splits in two. Mail us and we’ll quote you.
